Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples
has been based on a history of injustice and genocide, and that needs to end. We need to work honestly towards reconciliation. For a New Democratic government that means
implementing into law the United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous peoples. This would change the way laws are made in
Canada. But it needs to be founded on a principle
of equality, respect and dignity. We can begin by making sure that all Indigenous
communities have access to clean drinking water. It’s 2019. There’s no reason why anyone in our country
should face boiled water advisories.
