S. Korea’s political parties condemn N. Korea’s nuke test after all holding emergency meetings

South Korea’s political parties also reacted
promptly… each convening emergency meetings. All were on the same page that North Korea’s
provocation is unacceptable,… but slighly differed on how North Korea policies should
now shift. Song Ji-sun reports. After holding an emergency meeting, the Democratic
Party of Korea called for high military alertness… and referred to the government’s response
to the nuclear test as “prompt.” The ruling party called for cooperation in
overcoming the security crisis. The main opposition Liberty Korea Party also
held an emergency floor meeting condemning the North’s provocation, calling it “intolerable.” The conservative party criticized the Moon
administration for seeking dialogue with the North Korean regime. The minor People’s Party also denounced the
move, saying Pyongyang’s nuclear capability is becoming a real threat… and asking the
Moon administration to react sternly. It said begging for dialogue is now out of
the question. The splinter conservative Bareun Party also
said the “rules of the game have changed,” calling on the Moon administration to change
its North Korea policy. The progressive Justice Party also condemned
Pyongyang’s provocation… but said the path to dialogue should remain open. The defense committee at the National Assembly
on Monday will receive status reports detailing North Korea’s sixth nuclear test… and the
intelligence committee too will convene a similar meeting on the same day or the next. Song Ji-sun, Arirang News.
