Korea’s parliament was also quick to react
to the U.S. election news. The ruling Saenuri Party held its consultative
meeting with the government in the afternoon… to look at the potential changes in the U.S.
and its policies concerning the Korean peninsula. Saenuri Floor Leader Chung Jin-suk… offered
his congratulations to Donald Trump,…. saying the party respects Americans’ choice for change,…
and asked key government officials to open up channels of communication with the incoming
Trump administration. The main opposition Democratic Party of Korea,
meanwhile, is currently holding its own emergency meeting of its Supreme Council. The party’s spokesperson said the election
reflects U.S. voters’ yearning for change… and their disappointment with existing politics. The minor opposition People’s Party also met
in the afternoon,… saying it will closely watch the volatile market,… and work with
the government. The parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Unification
Committee also plans to meet next Monday to survey the government’s readiness for possible
changes in America’s policy on Korea and Northeast Asia.
